Thanks to all who wrote and requested "Vangelis" dvds- and apologies for the postponement of the project... Music rights didn't get cleared even though we were hoping for a positive response, and after some test previews, have decided to make some trims to pick up the pace of the film.

VANGELIS is planning to be submitted to SDCC in 2007. The final version may or may not make it through the gates, but regardless, those who requested a copy and wanted to give Vangelis a chance will get a copy when we're finished rescoring and retrimming.

Will VANGELIS be released on the internet?
Not sure at the moment. VANGELIS was meant to be a tribute in the way that "HARDWARE WARS" was a tribute to the original "STAR WARS", but instead, it seems to be drawing a bit of venom from "ANGEL" fans- which is a bit confusing- so let me try to set the record straight:

"VANGELIS" is a fan film that we made that tried to 'compress' as many elements as we could of the five seasons of "ANGEL", but using a parody form to do it. Much like the homages done on Saturday Night Live. Having fun WITH a show that I'm a big fan of (if you look at my collection of "Angel" merchandise, you'd understand), not mocking it. But, that was the intent. How it's received is out of my control of course, but I thought it important to again state what the intent was.

So---
For right now, the plan is to complete "VANGELIS" right now and see what the response is, and send it to those of you who are on the request list.

Past that?
Just not sure at the moment, but will keep all informed on this lj.

Thanks, I actually have to credit Kristy from City of Angel for really supporting us and getting the ball rolling!

I don't know if we're geniuses, but that's kind of you to say.
(May we give you money for saying that, though?) ;)

We tried to mimic the look of the cast of "Angel" as much as possible, hope you'll like the final product (if you send me your email, I'll put you on the contact list if you'd like when we get showings)!

Best of all to you and all your fellow film makers - what a grand project - Angel is V for Victory with getting your film out. Eventually I hope to see it online, as most of the Whedonverse followers never get to conventions - maybe you could put up some select stills at some point.

Thanks, that's very kind. Of course I'll make it free online (I'm probably going to go through Ifilm or Atomfilm if it gets accepted).

Will be happy to send out free dvds (as many as I can afford) to yourself and other ljers soon as we finish the convention run.

Good idea on the stills, will be happy to try to get some up soon!

First, these characters don't look anything like the Angel characters second Vangelis what kind of name is that. I think this tv series film or whatever it's is a disgrace and embaressment to Angel the TV series.

Well, I thought that this might be possible that fans would hate it.... but not before it was even seen!

It's very possible that after putting out a lot of heart and effort into this, that everyone will hate this or find it embarrassing. I've done a number of short films that no one cared for, so that's not new, but since this is attached to a tv show I really loved, I really wanted to do it.

You have no idea, but to be honest, there's a big terror until and after this comes out, whether or not everyone feels the same way that you do about it- because my name is also on this too (which I felt I had to do, as the actors are putting their faces out there).

Maybe I'll get a lot of hate mail on it, people may snicker, this may be the butt of jokes told all over the internet and/or in private in a negative way.

But I put myself out on a limb and have my real name out there.
It'd be nice if you did the same, I take your anger and hostility as a sideways compliment to the show, but it's really misdirected.

Do I want attention for this project? Yeah... because I'd like to get as many people together who MIGHT like it to enjoy it. But they might hate it and throw tomatoes at the showing and that hurts like hell--- but, hey, that's the price of trying to do somethng. You have to try your best and hope people like it.

But-
Tell you what. If you want a free sample to really rip it apart, tell me who you are, name and address, and I'll send you a cd of a clip. Then you can really say that you know what you're talking about, and not just flying off the handle over a couple of photos and the name of the Academy Award winning composer Vangelis.

This is Joss Whedon. Your film is a disgrace to me and everything we tried to do with the show. I will sue your asses if you try to get this shown at any convention!

Vangelis is awesome. I am one of the luck few who has actually seen this film. The real Joss Whedon would feel that emulating his work is a compliment. He is too professional and articulate to make sure ridiculous comments. Next time, "Joss", keep your old baggage, or should I say luggage out of it!. Keep up the good work, Vangelis!

Getting attention with a film that has a shaky steadicam, best-we-could do sound, and little money is a good way to get recognized in Hollywood- but not in a good way.

We did put our best foot forward, but I'll be the first to admit that this is not on the technical level of "George Lucas in Love", "Troops", or maybe even "Hardware Wars". Not for lack of trying, mind you. Just with mostly a one-man crew and extreme limits on time and money, maybe I was misguided and could have used the time and energy on it for a better cause--- but I was in love with the idea of honoring greatness via a mock tv show to the best of my ability.

To be fair, I can call "Vangelis" my "Hardware Wars" wannabe. I LOVED "Hardware Wars" the fan film, in all it's campiness and greatness, and I guess I should have mentioned that that was my other touchstone aside from the old Mad Magazine parodies while doing this.

Maybe I don't have an original idea. Maybe we don't deserve to succeed.
But success, is, to me, if any fans of the show enjoy how great "Angel" was as a show as it was to me while watching this homage to it.

Maybe it'll be an embarrassment. Who knows. If you hate it, put lay blame on me.
If you like it, credit the great guys and gals that volunteered to be up to scrutiny that were in front of the camera.

um the point of "fanfilms" is u make a film about a show your a fan of...god maybe you should use your eyes and see that it is a fanfilm not a rip off..

Anyhoo goodluck guys cant wait to see the movie ;)

...I confess, they're "Angel" shirts with a 'V' and "is" written on top of them with a sharpee. ;)

But who knows? A real one might be fun to officially print up and give out for free.
(Again, this feels a little odd as few have actually seen the film and I appreciate so many people already talking about it sight unseen!)

Yeah, I agree! Anyone who doesn't respect the new REL Firefly fan film Bellflower is gay- you all suk and dont know that we're better than you. No one else inthe world loves Joss Whedon more than us. He hates u guys.

I don't believe on looking down on any fan film, I don't understand the hostility that some fans put on them. I don't know the guys/gals personally who put out "Mosquito", but these things are so hard to make, that I feel that the effort deserves at least a nod of respect for getting it done.

I won't debate what is a 'real' fan film to your mind --- To me, a 'real' fan film is, to me, anyone that does a project for love and no money. (And sometimes, more often than not, no love, either from some fans, apparently.... *sigh*).

But again, everyone is entitled to have their own ops.
